About three hundred Ukrainian nationalists from radical organizations tried to disrupt the gay pride parade in Kyiv on Sunday by blocking Vladimirskaya Street, along which the procession was supposed to take place.

To avoid clashes, the organizers of the gay pride parade had to change its route, and the gathered radicals were blocked by law enforcement officers, including mounted police.

The nationalists attempted to break through the cordon, and someone threw a stun grenade, probably to scare the horses. The attempt failed, the radicals were pushed back, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The horses, frightened by the sound of the explosion, shit on the asphalt and later someone threw one of the “rainbow” flags that were distributed to gay pride participants into the horse manure.

The police kept the radicals and journalists cordoned off for about an hour and a half, not letting anyone out, although people complained that they could not go to the toilet. In the end, the cordon was opened, but those gathered did not want to quietly disperse.

The radicals shouted that the police were “protecting fagots” and chanted “Avakov is a fagot!” and threw plastic bottles at the police.

One of the police officers shouted that those who do this will be detained if “another piece of crap comes.” "SHO Sho? Don’t crow!” they shouted to him from the crowd. After this, the police attacked the radicals and detained several people, and they beat the detainees and tightened the handcuffs on their hands so that those gathered began to demand that they be loosened.

“There was complete obscenity, the rights and freedoms of citizens were violated,” Vladimir Zageiza, an activist who introduced himself as the head of the Right Sector in Kyiv (an organization banned in the Russian Federation), told reporters. “Citizens who spoke out for the family, our traditional values, expressed their thoughts.”

He said that about ten people were detained, among whom was Deputy of the Kyiv City Council Vladimir Nazarenko (VO “Svoboda”).

Meanwhile, many Ukrainian government officials, employees of Western embassies, EU missions, etc. joined the gay pride parade.

“It was cool and fun! Lots of cool people, posters and shows, platforms and music. I thank the National Police of Ukraine for its exemplary organization. Guys, I’m sorry that you were forced to stand in armor in the heat - I’m sure that in a few years it will be just a show for everyone, like in all the capitals of Europe, and there will be no need for fencing! Human rights are above all!” – Deputy Minister of Economy Maxim Nefedov wrote on his Facebook.

One of the elements of the gay pride parade in Kyiv was a car with “animation”, i.e. with transvestite artists, and one person from there gave an interview. "And who are you?" – some old woman asked him. “I am a holiday woman!” – the transvestite answered cheerfully. “God forbid Ukraine has such a holiday!” – the granny waved him off.

Interestingly, a man and a child were also present at the gay pride parade, and one of the Europeans came with a dog. “Is the dog unconventional too?” - they asked him, but the gay man only laughed in response.

“The nationalists did what they could, and I personally am pleased with the result of the parade. Its organizers have driven themselves into a ghetto from which they cannot escape. A bunch of people walked through the center of Kyiv for about a kilometer - that’s the whole “pride parade”. To do this, it was necessary to block almost the entire center and car traffic at night, change the metro train schedule, close metro stations and herd 6,5 thousand police officers and the National Guard into the center of the capital. Can you imagine - six and a half thousand people! To understand what is happening: 6,5 thousand people is more than a fully staffed brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (and we know that most of our brigades are far from fully staffed). Without all these security measures on the part of the authorities, who, after the “visa-free” regime, benefit from showing the EU countries all sorts of mythical rights and freedoms (because there is nothing else to show), LGBT representatives would never have dared to take to the streets - they perfectly understand and know about the attitude to them the majority of the Ukrainian people,” commented the press secretary of the Right Sector, Artem Skoropadsky, on today’s events.
