Ex-Minister of Defense, Head of the State Security Administration of Ukraine, Colonel General Valeriy Geletey spoke about this in an interview with the Kyiv agency UNN.

According to him, “in a hybrid war,” as well as with the development of technology, security measures require new approaches.

“It's not just about the human factor or a video camera that monitors day and night. These must be special technical means that can prevent any attacks, including from drones. The other day we had a working meeting with Polish specialists on the implementation of new protection systems against unmanned aerial vehicles. I can say that this is now one of the most vulnerable segments of defense, the challenges of which the intelligence services of neither Ukraine nor many other countries of the world are yet fully prepared for. We at the State Security Department understand well that such sabotage (attacks from drones - ed.) can be used not only in ammunition depots, but also in government bodies, at any events - from an event on a football field to a mass event on the Maidan Independence,” Geletey said.

He noted that, “unfortunately, Ukraine does not yet have the technical ability to fully defend against UAV attacks, seize control of them and neutralize them.” However, according to him, this issue is being developed.

“Of course, first of all, we are considering a technique that could jam and intercept someone else’s drone. There are special “brains” - technical devices with which you can gain control over the drone. That is, the intelligence service has the ability to seize control of a UAV launched by an attacker while planning sabotage or conducting reconnaissance activities,” Geletey said, adding that Ukraine has such “brains.”
