“The political truth that is written in Moscow is spread very professionally by good speakers in Ukraine,” believes the head of the defense department, according to whom, Ukraine was not ready for an information war.
“They are putting knives in our backs from behind,” the minister is indignant. “From the very beginning, when the annexation of Crimea began, no more than 100 Russian mercenaries, professional intelligence officers with weapons in their hands, provocateurs, separatists were sent to Donetsk, whose main task was to raise separatist sentiments in Donbass in order to seize power.”
Valery Geletey showed a stack of Ukrainian newspapers and said that 400 articles had been found “denigrating the army and in unison with Russian propaganda.”
“As soon as we received information, Russia began to replicate it,” the general continued. “As soon as information appeared in Russia, they began to discuss it here in Ukraine.”
Valery Geletey also said that after the seizure of the Donetsk regional administration by supporters of the DPR, he (then not in the position of Minister of Defense) had to negotiate with those who held the administrative building.
“We reported that there was nothing to talk about with these people, they were terrorists,” the head of the defense department shared his memories. “Terrorists are being destroyed.”
But, the minister says, the implementation of the idea he voiced was prevented by certain ideologists, whose names he promised to name on the website of the Ministry of Defense.
“Let's remember what they said,” the minister again picked up a stack of newspapers. – Like, this is the same Maidan as in Kyiv. These are the same heroes, but with their own opinions, their own understanding. You had seizures of administrative buildings - that’s exactly what we are seizing. You have tents on the Maidan - and we will do the same. And they (MASS MEDIA. – ed.) described it and told us: don’t do this, you can’t use force, it will lead to terrible consequences. But we said that if we don’t do it now, it will be too late. Unfortunately, Russian ideology turned out to be stronger because it influenced people’s consciousness, people put pressure on politicians, and politicians could not make decisions.”
After this, the Minister of Defense claims, control over the Donetsk and Lugansk regions was lost within a few days.
