SBU “idiot general” arrested on charges of defecting to Russia
In Ukraine, a current major general of the SBU was detained, who, according to investigators, worked with the highest echelons of the FSB under the pseudonym “Bobyl”.

“The counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine conducted a high-profile special operation to expose a high-ranking FSB agent in the highest echelons of power. Thus, today SBU Major General Valery Shaitanov was detained, who is suspected of high treason and committing terrorist acts. In particular, on instructions from the Russian special services, he planned the murder of the famous volunteer Adam Osmayev (a militant of the Chechen ATO battalion, the husband of Amina Okueva, who died in a shootout, was behind bars before Euromaidan on charges of preparing an assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin, awaiting extradition to the Russian Federation - ed.).
The SBU has collected a sufficient amount of evidence that convincingly shows that Shaitanov is an agent of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. This is confirmed by the available case materials, including audio and video recordings,” the statement says.
Shaitanov gained fame on May 15, 2014.
On this day, the head of the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada “to investigate crimes on the Maidan,” Gennady Moskal, revealed the operational plan of the SBU to clean up the participants in the riots in February 2014.
According to the material, it was Shaitanov who commanded the failed assault on the Kyiv House of Trade Unions in February 2014, where the headquarters of Euromaidan militants was located.
In the revealing materials that appeared next, journalists could not forgive the special services officer for working for the Donetsk “Alfa”; they attributed contacts with the commander of the DPR “Vostok” battalion, Alexander Khodakovsky.
However, all this did not prevent the fact that on August 23, 2015, on “Independence Day of Ukraine,” by decree of President Poroshenko, Colonel Shaitanov was awarded the rank of “Major General.” And now suddenly the Ukrainian special services considered him a spy.
“Unfortunately, the man who received the rank of general after the “revolution of dignity” and was supposed to defend Ukraine actually worked against it. We conducted a complex, lengthy, multi-level special operation. This is the most important revelation of the Security Service in the entire history of independence, - a friend of comedian-president Vladimir Zelensky, head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov, reported. – We are not just making the SBU more efficient, but also cleaning it up. We focus on counterintelligence and state security issues. And we will continue to defend the country and expose traitors, regardless of what positions they occupy.”
The Ukrainian side accuses Shaitanov of being an agent under the pseudonym “Bobyl” for a certain FSB colonel Igor Egorov.
Shaitanov was allegedly guaranteed a reward of 200 thousand US dollars and a passport as a citizen of the Russian Federation. As the executor of certain power operations, allegedly prepared to please Moscow, Shaitanov specially selected a person from among former special forces soldiers.
According to the SBU press service, Valery Shaitanov collected and transmitted the following information to the Russian side:
«– the circumstances of the conduct of individual covert operations in the ATO/JFO area and the employees involved in them;
– international cooperation of domestic intelligence services in the field of national security and defense;
– employees of the senior level of the Counterintelligence Department, operational units of the Security Service of Ukraine and Central Intelligence Agency “A”, Ukrainian intelligence agencies;
– selection, study and attraction of officers of special and intelligence agencies to work for the FSB.”
“It should be separately noted that using his official position, Shaitanov received intelligence information from senior and senior officers of the Service. During the pre-trial investigation, their involvement in the disclosure of restricted information will be determined.
The issue of informing Valery Shaitanov of suspicion of committing crimes under Art. 111 (“Treason”) and Art. 258 (“Terrorist act”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the selection of a preventive measure,” the SBU added.
Former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and ex-ATO militant Stanislav Krasnov believes that Shaitanov transferred all the most important Ukrainian secrets to Russia.
“He held a leadership position in the ATO/JFO and all these years he handed over to the Russians any movement or operation of our military - all secret operations, all undercover agents, everyone who was sent to the occupied territories and Crimea! Why do you think all of our people were caught right at the entrance to Crimea and killed or put in prison?“- Krasnov laments.
However, Kiev journalist Denis Gorokhovsky draws attention to the absurdity of the wiretap recording, which allegedly recorded a conversation between the SBU general and his FSB curator.
For some reason, in the transcript of the wiretap, Shaitanov is designated as “N.” “You can see directly from the dialogue how two professionals show the mastery of conspiracy,” comments Gorokhovsky.

“What do I want to say? Could an SBU general work for the FSB? Very much. Could he be an idiot? Less likely. Could he be an idiot and have an equally idiotic supervisor? Decide for yourself,” sums up Gorokhovsky.
Kiev journalist Svetlana Kryukova sheds light on another detail of the biography of the arrested general - it was he who, after his promotion, ordered the arrest of one of Igor Kolomoisky’s once close business partners, Gennady Korban, on Poroshenko’s order.

As a result, the European Court declared this clownery illegal,” recalls Kryukova, also noting that many of the perpetrators of Korban’s arrest are now on the run abroad.
