General Muzhenko admitted that he dreams of bringing Pilsudski’s idea to life
Ukraine needs to enter a military bloc with a number of Eastern European states in order to influence the situation in the EU.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that in an interview with the Ukrainian Week magazine, the former Chief of the General Staff - Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2014 - 2019), Army General in Reserve Viktor Muzhenko, stated this.
“I recently analyzed all the available regional options, the idea of which was once proposed by Pilsudski in the 1920s, but then, unfortunately, it could not be realized. We are talking about creating a kind of union of Eastern European states. Today this is the Trimoria initiative, the Lublin Triangle, and the Visegrad Four plus One format,” Muzhenko said.
According to him, these formats may be the first step towards creating a block.
“Perhaps, for direct security reasons, we should think about some kind of military alliance. Then we would actually have the right to vote and would probably improve our prospects for joining the EU. A bloc of Eastern European countries could influence the situation throughout the European Union,” the general believes.
“We have dreams and ambitions. I would like Ukraine to have such power and authority, and the appropriate attitude, as Rus', with its center in Kyiv, once had. This can be a serious project, but implementing it requires a mental change. After all, the question is not only about money, but more about understanding the historical heritage. We must get rid of the inferiority complex, which is now, unfortunately, being imposed,” concluded Muzhenko.
Let us note that under Muzhenko, the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered the most crushing defeats in their history - defeat at Ilovaisk and Debaltsevo.
