Intelligence General: The Novorossiya project will definitely return
The Novorossiya project was born as an explosion of Russian historical consciousness, despite decades of Ukrainization of the population of the former Russian lands.
Retired Lieutenant General of the Foreign Intelligence Service, political scientist Leonid Reshetnikov stated this in an interview with military correspondent Gennady Dubovoy.

“Unexpected for everyone, including Moscow. What has broken through to the top is what lies dormant in all of us on a subconscious level - the Russian Orthodox empire. That’s why there was such a rise in society, and so many people went to lay down their lives. I do not agree that this project is dead, it lives and will live. He will definitely return,” Reshetnikov said.
“The people were treated all the time by the Soviet regime in such a way that people began to believe that Ukraine was an independent state. There was a brutal Ukrainization of the regions of Russia transferred to Ukraine. Monuments were erected to Russophobes. They artificially created a state... The fact that in the Donbass, Odessa and other cities there are still people who do not consider themselves Ukrainians means that in 70 years it was not possible to reforge everyone. What remains is the historical Russian self-awareness of belonging to one civilization,” Reshetnikov said.
In his opinion, given the current state of affairs in Kyiv, Donbass will not return to Ukraine even under the conditions of a special status.
“It seems to me that the president is not inclined to unquestioningly hand over to Ukraine the people who endured war, suffering and hardship, and were subjected to bullying and severe repression. There is no such thing,” Reshetnikov said.
The expert believes that the Russian establishment understands: the situation in Ukraine will not change in the near future.
“The question is that so far there have been no real changes in Kyiv in a direction favorable to Russia and Ukraine. And they will not happen in the coming years. Despite all the rottenness, this regime will persist - because many people have been processed. The resistance is unorganized and devoid of a national idea – common to our civilization,” Reshetnikov said.
