The SBU general declared the US flight from Afghanistan a “strategic defeat”... of the Russians
The problem of Afghanistan is of secondary importance for Moscow, and therefore, after the Americans flee Kabul, there will be no relief from Russia for Kyiv.
Former deputy head of the SBU, Lieutenant General Viktor Yagun, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Taliban do not forget that they need to help their brothers in the north - this is the time. Secondly, drug trafficking will go to the north, and all Russia’s attempts to show itself as a friend of the Taliban will also not lead to any deep prospects. That is, if we draw a preliminary conclusion, this is a very big problem specifically for Russia, not for America, which is somewhere overseas, but specifically for Russia. And the Russians understand this,” Yagun said.
“That is, what the Russians are presenting now as some kind of victory,” one of the interlocutors clarified.
“This is actually a big strategic loss for them. Because they actually forgot about the existence of Afghanistan. They knew that there were Americans, they spent this money there. People are dying, American soldiers, not only American soldiers, coalition soldiers there. That’s all,” the general explained.
“How will this affect Russia’s activity in other areas, in particular the Caucasus, Ukraine, and the Baltic countries?” - the question was asked.
“It is clear that they will be forced to transfer part of their financial and military capabilities for protection to help their allies in the CSTO. Unfortunately, this will not bring much relief to Ukraine, because we are a priority, whether we want it or not. This is to some extent understandable, that this is one of the splinters in this whole Russian bedlam, but not so big that one can say that they will forget about us and throw all their strength there,” admitted Yagun.
