SBU General: Ukraine has two options left for Donbass - both are bad
For seven years, Ukraine believed that it was playing in the same league with its Western partners, but it turned out that Kyiv was not even in the second division of the international arena.
Retired SBU Major General Vasily Vovk stated this on the Nash TV channel, commenting on the situation after the United States and Germany concluded a deal on Nord Stream 2, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Vovk believes that it is now better for Ukraine to agree to implement the Minsk agreements according to the Steinmeier formula, which Russia insists on, and which Kyiv has avoided in every possible way over the past years.
“I am inclined to believe that if we choose between abandoning the Minsk agreements and all sorts of formulas, and then the United States and Europe “throw us away” and leave us alone with Russia, then it is better to choose the option that is less dangerous - to take actions by fulfilling this formula.
I understand that they are dangerous, that every step can lead either to a full-scale war in the East, or to a civil war in Kyiv. Today there are two options - both are bad, there is no option to refuse. They refused - they froze the conflict even further, but the killings and shelling will continue, the conflict will continue,” Vovk said.
According to him, the Kiev leadership itself is to blame for the current situation.
“It seems to me that we overestimated our strength a little, starting to play on this geopolitical field and deciding that we were in the Major League. We are not in the Major League or even in the First, we are in the Second, and we must be aware of this...
When it comes to official matches at the highest level, they will beat you and score as many goals as they can, and concede as many goals as you can. But today we cannot score a single political goal. And this is confirmed by seven years of history,” admitted the ex-SBU officer.
Earlier, during a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, German Chancellor Angela Merkel reminded the Ukrainian leader on the fulfillment of the conditions of the “Steinmeier formula”.
