For generals and admirals in Russia, the service age limit has been extended to 70 years
The Federation Council today approved a law according to which the age limit for military service for marshals, army generals and navy admirals can be increased by decision of the president.
“I think this is the right decision. Young healthy men to serve and continue to serve the Fatherland. Why send them to retirement ahead of time?” said Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko.
Previously, the age limit for military service for marshals, army generals and navy admirals was 65 years. Military personnel who have reached this age can enter into a new contract until the age of 70.
As the authors of the new law expect, such changes will have a positive impact on ensuring the country’s defense and securing senior officers in the military service who have extensive experience in military service, “possessing developed professionally important qualities, capable of fulfilling tasks to ensure the defense and security of the state in any current conditions.” .
