The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine again took up the investigation of Ilovaisk
The Main Military Prosecutor's Office of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine will seize documents from the Office of the President on the investigation of the Ilovaisk tragedy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
“The prosecutor has received permission from the investigating judge for temporary access and seizure from the Office of the President of Ukraine of documents relating to the circumstances of the anti-terrorist operation in August 2014 in the Ilovaisk region,” the statement says.
It is noted that the Main Military Prosecutor's Office is carrying out a pre-trial investigation into the circumstances of the Ilovaisk tragedy, as well as the causes and consequences of these events.
“During the pre-trial investigation in criminal proceedings, a comprehensive and objective study of all the circumstances of decision-making on the planning and conduct of a military operation in the area of the city of Ilovaisk in August 2014 will be provided,” the GPU noted.
At the end of August 2014, after large-scale battles, servicemen of the ATO forces were surrounded near Ilovaisk. The enemy fired at the corridor through which, by agreement, Ukrainian fighters were supposed to exit.
According to the General Staff, in the battles for Ilovaisk in August 2014, the Ukrainian army lost 220 military personnel, 40 were missing, and 13 military personnel are still in captivity.
Previously, official data from the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine indicated that as a result of the execution of Ukrainian military personnel in the Ilovaisk cauldron in 2014, 366 people were killed and 429 were injured. Unofficial figures were several times higher.
