Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin explained why he has to travel in an armored car and constantly change apartments for overnight stays.

Shokin spoke about this in an interview with Fakty.
Shokin confirmed that he uses a Mercedes-Benz car worth UAH 19 million, the license plates of which are registered to a Skoda Octavia.
“This is absolutely true. I also read a message on Facebook from former official and businessman Alexei Tamrazov, who admitted that he received this data from the traffic police unofficially. And he wrote that it means that some kind person gave the Prosecutor General a ride in a car, and this is corruption,” says Shokin.
“I asked who Tamrazov was because this was the first time I had heard about him. It turns out that at one time he was in Viktor Avdyshev’s group. Nine years ago he worked as first deputy commercial director of Ukrnafta. In 2010-2014, he was the first deputy head of the board of Ukrgasvydobuvannya and headed the People's Platform party. They write that he intended to run for the City Council, but then withdrew his candidacy,” notes the Prosecutor General.
“But it’s not about Tamrazov, it’s about Mercedes, which I actually drive. Why on such a car? Not long ago I made a statement about a possible attempt on my life. I made this information public after our prosecutor’s office found a revolver in a cache that was fully suitable for shooting, albeit without charges. I took this as a warning: they say, guy, don’t play around, if we were able to bring a gun here, then we can go further. Then other controversial situations occurred. Therefore, it was decided to strengthen my security and that I needed an armored vehicle. The Prosecutor General's Office found the appropriate car from a company that provides them for rent, and signed a contract for a year, because maybe I would leave earlier. You never know what happens in life... If I’m not mistaken, the cost of renting an armored Mercedes with the highest degree of protection is about 12 thousand UAH per month,” says Shokin.
He also explained why the license plates of this car are registered with another car.
“Because these are cover numbers. There are several of them, the guards periodically change the numbers on the car, as well as my travel routes and places of overnight stay. “I really stay in different apartments for safety reasons,” says the Prosecutor General.
He also spoke about a house located in Zabire near Kiev, near which journalists saw him getting out of a Mercedes.
“At one time, an old acquaintance of mine purchased 21 acres of land in Zabire. It was, in fact, a landfill where garbage from the entire area was taken. He cleared the site and began to build a large house. And then he left it to me. I actually lived in it for a long time. The fact is that relationships with ex-wives and children - three from three spouses - were not easy for me,” admits Shokin.
As Ukrainian media reported, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin drives a Mercedes-Benz worth at least 570 thousand euros.
