NATO Secretary General promised in Kyiv to never recognize Russian Crimea
NATO will never recognize the right of the residents of Crimea to reunite with Russia, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a meeting of the Ukrainian Security Council in Kyiv.
“Russia illegally annexed Crimea, and we will never accept this. Russia continues to support pro-Russian separatists with weapons and troops in eastern Ukraine. This is a violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,” he said.

Petro Poroshenko responded by calling Stoltenberg “a great friend of Ukraine,” emphasizing that this is the first time that the NATO Secretary General is taking part in a meeting of the Ukrainian Security Council.
“Ukraine and NATO have never been as close as they are now. We are much more than just partners,” Poroshenko said.
According to him, “Ukraine is the easternmost outpost of Euro-Atlantic civilization.”
“Today, Ukraine is fighting for freedom and democracy both in the region and in the world. He fights for the right of the Ukrainian people to choose their civilizational path. We will not allow anyone from outside the country to try to influence this process. This is exclusively the right of the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian government, and we made our choice towards European values, European civilizational development during the Revolution of Dignity,” the president said.
According to him, “the Euro-Atlantic choice with the prospect of NATO membership is receiving growing support in Ukrainian society; today more than 60 percent of Ukrainians want to see Ukraine as a member of the alliance.”
