NATO Secretary General recognized Europe's complete dependence on the United States
For the first time, 20 thousand US and Canadian soldiers will take part in NATO exercises in Eastern Europe.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke about this at the Munich Security Conference, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“NATO is the expression of the concept of the West,” said the NATO Secretary General. – Europe and North America... Our common vision is to protect and defend each other. The reality is that we do more together now than we used to. The US is investing more in European security. Sends more troops, conducts more exercises.”
Stoltenberg said the West is "under competition" from an "increasingly assertive Russia" that is trying to regain influence in the world. It is also “under pressure” from its “main competitor” – China, which will soon become the world’s largest economy: it has the second largest defense budget in the world.
“Any attempt to distance Europe from North America not only weakens transatlantic ties and reduces our competitiveness on the world stage, it also risks fragmenting Europe,” said the NATO secretary general. “I don’t think Europe should act alone, I don’t think America should act alone, I think Europe and America should act together.”
As an example of such effective joint actions, Stoltenberg cited the increased presence of US and Canadian troops in Europe.
“The Defenders of Europe 20 exercise will soon take place, in which 20 American troops will take part,” said the head of the North Atlantic Alliance. “For the first time in our history, combat-ready units are present on the territory of eastern NATO member countries.”
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is preparing to host a session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly at the end of May to discuss the anti-Russian plan in the Black Sea.
