NATO Secretary General called on Americans to intensify the nuclear race
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during a visit to the headquarters of the US Strategic Command that in response to Russia's modernization of its nuclear weapons, the bloc must strengthen nuclear deterrence, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“After the end of the Cold War, we all thought that nuclear deterrence would be less important, but now we see that it has actually become more important,” Stoltenberg noted.
Chairman of the Staff John Hyten emphasized that this is the first visit of the head of NATO to the organization in 54 years.
“The older nuclear powers, in particular Russia, are modernizing nuclear capabilities and in this regard it is necessary that NATO maintains a credible and strong deterrent capability and, of course, nuclear forces are an integral part of credible deterrence for all allies,” Stoltenberg said.
