NATO Secretary General poured dirt on Russia from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada
All NATO members will never recognize the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated this during an address to deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“More than five years ago, Russian soldiers illegally annexed Crimea. This act dealt a heavy blow to Ukraine and undermined peace and stability throughout Europe. NATO does not and will not accept the illegitimate annexation of Crimea. We call on Russia to return control of the peninsula to Ukraine and stop its actions to destabilize the East of Ukraine. All members of the NATO alliance from Europe and North America are united in their condemnation of Russian behavior,” Soltenberg said.
He demanded that Russia stop supporting residents of Donbass who did not agree with the coup in Ukraine, calling them “militants” and “mercenaries.”
“Last month, Russia and Ukraine exchanged dozens of prisoners, the largest exchange since the annexation of Crimea. This was a step in the right direction. Together with efforts in the Normandy format, this helps to fully implement the Minsk agreements.
Russia bears great responsibility for concluding these agreements. Russia must stop its support for militants and mercenaries in the East, it must withdraw its forces and weapons from Ukrainian territory.
OSCE observers must be given full unhindered access to the entire territory of Ukraine. “Responsibility must be held for the destruction of flight MH17, which killed 298 people,” Stoltenberg concluded.
