The OSCE Secretary General admitted that without the Russian Federation, European security will not be sustainable
Despite existing differences, the West and Russia must jointly respond to their common challenges.
OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger writes about this in an article for Kommersant.
“Issues such as violent extremism, terrorism, illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons, cyber threats and large flows of refugees and migrants are common challenges for all OSCE participating States. They can only be dealt with through joint efforts. This is another reason why Russia and the West need to overcome their differences,” believes.
He calls for replacing the dangerous trend toward tit-for-tat behavior with reciprocal steps in areas of common interest to “restore constructive communication, predictability and trust.”
“As a global power in a globalized world, Russia plays a significant role in restoring the international system based on international law and ensuring its proper functioning. This also meets Russia's national interests. It should therefore be in its own interests to be part of the European security architecture. And this architecture can only be sustainable if Russia is part of it,” sums up.
