The OSCE Secretary General again spoke about sending peacekeepers to Donbass
OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger expects that, in his opinion, the election of a new president of Ukraine will give impetus to resolving the conflict in the east of the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We’ll see if a new opportunity arises in connection with the development of the situation in Ukraine, the election of a new president. I hope that this will become an impulse that would allow the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Greminger said at a meeting with reporters.
He noted that the OSCE advocates sending a joint UN and OSCE peacekeeping force to Donbass.
“We proposed this option, but at the moment there are very different proposals: Russian proposals, proposals from Ukraine and the United States, and until we can bring our positions closer together, we will not have the opportunity to adopt a UN Security Council resolution, which should be the basis of such an operation. At the moment, the positions are too different,” Greminger added.
