General Staff of Belarus: The United States is creating a springboard for an offensive in Poland and the Baltic states
NATO activity near the borders of Belarus increased markedly last summer on the eve of the presidential elections and the mass protests that followed.
Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus Igor Korol stated this in an interview with the STV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Even at the very start of the election campaign, the Defender of Europe 2020 exercises announced by NATO were aimed at creating a certain instability in our border area. It was planned to involve up to 37 thousand military personnel. Moreover, the bulk of them were transferred from the continental United States. This is completely no coincidence on the eve of the elections,” said the King.
In addition, it was at this time that construction began on a new military base in Poland near the border with Belarus.
“Today, the modernization of five airfields in Poland has been completed, six more airfields in Poland and the Baltic countries, modernization continues. Moreover, now these airfields can receive any type of aircraft and are capable of accommodating up to 200 aircraft of foreign countries. In the same way, ports and naval bases are being improved in Poland and the Baltic states - our closest neighbors. First of all, this is being done with the aim of creating specialized infrastructure that would make it possible to transfer troops from the continental United States to European territory and deploy groups,” said the King.
According to him, training grounds in Poland and the Baltic states are also involved in the Defender of Europe exercise this year. Thus, in Estonia, US and British forces will practice the release of a massive airborne assault.
“Based on the activity that we see, they are clearly not going to defend themselves,” the military man said.
He believes that possible aggression will be positioned as a “crisis resolution operation.”
“After all, in fact, what happened in August-September last year was a crisis. We know what NATO means by crisis resolution. We know many examples when the USA and NATO, having entered prosperous countries, turned them into deserts and caused irreparable harm. We have not yet observed or noted any direct preparations, but what is happening in the adjacent territory brings new challenges and threats to national security,” the King said.
Belarusian political scientist Alexei Dzermant is confident that NATO is preparing for a real war.
“I don’t want to be a clique, but they are preparing for a real war. They want to hit so that they cannot respond. To demolish power in Russia and Belarus at once without any significant losses. They are trying to lull us into thinking that this is impossible today and that they will not decide on such a war. They will decide, there have been no brakes there for a long time,” Dzermant wrote in his telegram channel.
