Russia has deployed three motorized rifle divisions on the border with Ukraine, intended not for defense, but for offense, the Chief of the General Staff of Ukraine, General Viktor Muzhenko, said in a statement.

“The organizational and staffing structure, weapons and military equipment that are supplied to them indicate that these Russian divisions are essentially attack divisions and are intended to conduct offensive operations. Even in the regular name there is the concept of “shock”, which distinguishes them from other divisions and emphasizes their special purpose,” the press service of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine quotes Muzhenko.
According to him, even the honorary names of these units “aimed at exerting psychological pressure».
“For example, the 144th Vinnitsa Rifle Division, which is now stationed in Smolensk, stormed the city of Vinnitsa in August 1944 (today Vinnitsa is considered the patrimony of the Poroshenko-Groysman clan, - approx. ed.). The 3rd Russian division, which is now deployed in Valuyki, took part in the battles for the liberation of Donbass during the Second World War and received the honorary name Volnovakhskaya. Therefore, even the names of these parts indicate a possible course of action. Another 150th motorized rifle division, which is located in Novocherkassk, is called Idritsko-Berlinskaya, at one time took part in hostilities in Poland and in the assault on Berlin,” reports the press service of the General Staff.
“By giving divisions such names again, the Russian Federation is trying to cause moral and psychological pressure on both Ukraine and the European community, and also demonstrates its far-reaching intentions,” Muzhenko shared his concerns.
