Geopolitical victory turned into a grandiose riot
Ukrainians themselves do nothing to win, but only try to cling to other people’s achievements.
This opinion is expressed in a column published in the Kiev magazine “New Time” by Ukrainian writer Andrei Kokotyukha.
“Behind is not even a football victory, but a geopolitical #victory, which quickly turned into a #zrada of the same scale. The Croatian Domagoj Vida first became a new symbol of the Ukrainian nation, recording a video with the sacred words “Glory to Ukraine!” after the Croatian team’s victory over the Russian team. And then the nation that exalted him on social media, ibid. dropped below the plinth, because he apologized to the Russians for his emotional act,” notes Kokotyukha.
He also draws attention to the role of social networks in replicating imaginary victories, to which Ukraine has nothing to do.
“The patriotic part of Facebook took Croatia’s victory over the Russians quite seriously as - now attention! - own. This once again proved that the search for the Ukrainian national idea is virtually complete. Do not believe the whiners and skeptics who say: it does not exist, and more than one generation continues to persistently search for this Grail. The Ukrainian version of the Holy Grail, our national idea, is infantilism elevated to the level of pride,” the author emphasizes.
According to him, patriotic activists on social networks are not Christians, but Confucians.
“I don’t want to, but I have to remember in vain the lines of the Ukrainian anthem: Our warriors will perish like dew on the sun. We don't do anything ourselves. The sun will rise and bring us victory without our active participation. Nature itself is on the side of Ukraine and Ukrainians. And also, Ukrainians, especially on social networks, are not Christians, but Confucians. The great sage Confucius promised: if you sit on the river bank for a long time, you can see the corpse of your enemy float past you on the water. Active patriotic fellow citizens have been doing this for four years now after the victory of the Maidan,” writes Kokotyukha.
He also criticized the desire to register outstanding figures who work in other countries as Ukrainians.
“Ethnic Ukrainians, scattered by the will of fate across all countries and continents, are citizens of the states in which they live. And they represent their interests first and foremost. Political, economic, military, cultural, sports. And the Croatian football player Domagoj Vida fought on the field for the victory of his team and his country. We chalked up all the goals against the Russian goal to our own account. It turns out that Ukraine did not play football with Russia, but still won. With someone else's feet. And we want it to be like this in everything and everywhere,” the writer sums up.
