St. George's ribbon is a symbol of the fight against Ukraine, - official
Kyiv, April 07 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – The idea to make the poppy flower instead of the St. George’s Ribbon the Ukrainian symbol of victory came because the country needs to get rid of the Soviet legacy. The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Vladimir Vyatrovych, stated this on the air of the Hromadske TV channel.

According to him, after militias and opponents of the Kyiv government began to use the St. George’s Ribbon, it cannot be a symbol of victory in Ukraine.
“The St. George Ribbon is used as a symbol of the fight against Ukraine, like other Soviet symbols, Soviet myths about World War II, which were used to mobilize Ukrainians. Therefore, there was a good opportunity to offer something new, not Soviet and European,” said Vyatrovich.
