This was stated during a round table on the topic: “The state of public consciousness in Donbass: assessments of trends, forecasts and recommendations for the state policy of reintegration of Donbass,” said Deputy Minister for the so-called “temporarily occupied territories” and internally displaced persons Georgy Tuka, the correspondent reports “ PolitNavigator".
“As for Severodonetsk and elections in Ukraine in general, I want to say the following: if it were my will, I would completely ban elections throughout the country for 5-10 years,” Tuka said confidently.
“Who can remind me the last time we had positive elections? In a country at war, elections will only work to further break and further divide Ukraine. The example of Severodonetsk was very striking, when elections were held there during my tenure in the Lugansk region. I almost danced when, for the first time in history, the Opposition Bloc found itself in the minority in the City Council. This has never happened before. What do you think happened the next day? The “Radical Party” and representatives of “Fatherland” united and jointly opposed the mayor, who was elected by 67% of the population. Now, without a mayor, the city has been paralyzed for two years,” the official explained his proposal.
