The Heraldic Council under Lukashenko turned the Globe of Belarus towards Europe
The Ministry of Justice of Belarus has prepared changes to the law on state symbols of the country, which provide for some changes to the coat of arms of the republic.
The ministry claims that it offers “slightly edited” reference images of the state emblem “in one, two and many colors.”
One of these revisions was that the images of the continents became clearer and more geographically accurate.”
In practice, this means that if previously the territory of Russia was mainly visible on the coat of arms, now Europe has occupied a fair part of the composition. This edition attracted the most attention.
"Wow! The globe on the coat of arms of Belarus is spinning! If this continues, in a few years North America should appear there,” Russian political scientist Vladimir Kornilov commented on the changes.
The writer Severin Kvyatkovsky, like other Belarusian nationalists, was not impressed by the turn of the coat of arms towards Europe. They believe that the symbol of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania “Pagonya” should be returned as a coat of arms.
“If you look at the options for Soviet symbols of Belarus, you will notice that there is no specific system there. In some places, only the Russian North is visible, in other places there is a large piece of not only socialist, but also a little bit of capitalist Europe,” recalls Kwiatkovsky on the Radio Liberty website.
Pro-presidential Belarusian political scientist Alexei Dzermont also criticized the change in the coat of arms.
“As for the rotation of the globe, this is a strange decision, which will give rise to anti-Belarusian speculation (they say that there is more Europe). They have already begun, by the way. The globe needs to be rotated so that Belarus is in the center,” Dzermont wrote in his Telegram channel.
The Heraldic Council under the President of Belarus worked on changes in the image of the coat of arms. A transition period is provided for the introduction of a new standard.
