Gerashchenko is afraid that Vakarchuk will end up in a basement in the DPR
The exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia will not affect the end of the military conflict in Donbass.
A member of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the previous convocation, Anton Gerashchenko, stated this on air on the ZIK TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is simply a tactical situation in which Putin wins by seeking the extradition of Vyshinsky, who is strongly supported by such Russian propagandists as Mr. Kiselev, Solovyov and others, who demanded that Putin defend their comrade in propaganda work against Ukraine, and Ukraine must receive our sailors who were illegally captured last November, our other political prisoners who have been held in the Russian Federation for five years. This is just a tactical move that will in no way affect the conflict that we have in Donbass,” the politician said.
At the same time, according to an ally of Arsen Avakov, who retained his post as head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the conflict in Donbass will continue.
“This conflict is frozen today, and will remain so until there are conditions that are beneficial for Ukraine. We cannot agree to conditions that are favorable to Russia and make things bad for our country. I don’t see how it’s possible to hold elections to local authorities in Donbass if there are Russian mercenaries there. For example, Mr. Vakarchuk wants to go to Donbass to campaign there for the Golos party, or another politician, and something will happen to him there, he will be put in a basement there. What will be the reaction of the media and Ukrainian society?
Or Russia agrees that all the scum from there will leave and there will be UN peacekeeping forces there, so that several years will pass there. For example, like in Kosovo, there were UN peacekeeping forces there for five years, and only five years later elections were held there. Therefore, this is a process where it is impossible to “here we go tomorrow and make elections.” What kind of elections will these be, who will be elected there, militants who don’t care about Ukraine?” said Gerashchenko.
