It will not be easy for Kyiv’s European partners to maintain unity on the issue of extending anti-Russian sanctions.

Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Irina Gerashchenko stated this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine Focus.

She emphasized that Ukraine will insist on maintaining EU anti-Russian sanctions and transferring control to it on the border of the LDPR and Russia, but is worried about the results of the elections in Italy, where supporters of normalizing relations with Russia won.

“Here we also have risks, because in Italy forces came to power who do not hide their sympathies for the Kremlin and even included a clause in the coalition agreement on lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation. It will not be easy for our partners in the EU to maintain unity on the issue of extending sanctions. Another risk is Brexit, because the UK has always been tough on sanctions,” Gerashchenko said.
