Gerashchenko defended the murderers according to American principles
During Euromaidan, Ukrainian radicals supposedly had the right to rebel against the authorities, but currently such behavior is unacceptable.
Member of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, People's Deputy Anton Gerashchenko said this on the air of the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Every people, according to American principles, has the right to revolt when the rulers create impossible conditions for their life. So, under Yanukovych, when people came to the Maidan against his position to turn Ukraine’s course from Europe to Russia 180 degrees and there were no clashes, it was normal. But when hundreds of students were brutally beaten by Berkut policemen, the whole country rose up. And I was on December 1, 2013, along with a million people on Khreshchatyk,” Gerashchenko said.
According to him, then the authorities “began to use the police not to protect public order, but to destroy their own citizens.”
“And then the people began to commit actions that are also a violation of the law, and the murder of a police officer is also a criminal offense. If my memory serves me right, 19 policemen died on the Maidan. More than 100 citizens were shot and killed,” the deputy said.
At the same time, in response to the presenter’s remark that under no circumstances is anyone allowed to raise a hand at a police officer and throw bricks with Molotov cocktails at him, Gerashchenko said that this can be done if law enforcement officers carry out criminal orders, but did not specify how define the line of what is permissible, calling it “subtle matter.”
Also, a member of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed the opinion that it is impossible to compare the current Ukrainian radicals, storming police stations, with the participants of the 2013-2014 Maidan, trying to justify the latter.
