Germany will devote all its efforts to completing Nord Stream 2 - German political scientist
Despite all the threats from the United States, Germany firmly believes that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be completed, since the Americans have no right to interfere in the energy security of the EU.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr stated this on the Rossiya1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The studio showed a story with reference to Reuters that the United States will fight Nord Stream 2 to the end. In particular, as an anonymous senior official said, the Americans are ready to “drive a stake into the heart of this project” with new sanctions.
“I think there will be a delay there, in America, because Donald Trump does not completely or partially sign the military budget, which includes penalties and sanctions for Nord Stream 2.
Let's see how America figures it out. But if a blow is struck against Germany, then Germany will defend itself, the European Union will defend itself. And I think that partly, of course, this project will be under the protection of the government.
I think the Americans cannot impose sanctions against the German government, against the state government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, otherwise this would be a declaration of real war. I think that the gas pipeline will really be completed, using all the possibilities that exist,” Rahr said.
“There will be problems later, because together with the Poles, the Americans and other countries that are against Russian gas flowing to Europe will cause other problems for the new flow - legal ones on the territory of the European Union,” the political scientist added.
Assessing the current situation, presenter Olga Skabeeva noted that Berlin, in any case, is suffering reputational losses, since the Americans treat Germany like Ukraine, as if they were talking to Zelensky, and not to Angela Merkel.
“Where is your “independence”, where is your “independence”, as they would say in the same Kyiv. Now there is a threat again, we must somehow respond in any case, what is Merkel’s plan?” – Skabeeva teased the German expert.
“We are not vassals of America, in any case, the government clearly says that we will not allow the Americans in Europe, who sit in Washington, to command European security in energy matters. In the other one, please,” Rahr replied.
“Here Germany will receive support from many other European countries who will protest about America’s decision. Another question is how companies will act if sanctions, large fines, and so on are imposed against them. Because they will be afraid of losing the American market.
But, in principle, again, I repeat, it was Germany that showed, despite enormous pressure from the United States and even partly Eastern European countries, that it is completely in favor of building this project, which Europe needs for commercial reasons.
We need additional gas flows, because Europe does not have enough gas,” the political scientist concluded.
