Germany and France are pushing Ukraine towards specifics on Donbass
The unflattering attacks made by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in a conversation with Donald Trump against the leaders of France and Germany will certainly have consequences.
Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflictology, stated this in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
“If we talk about resolving the conflict in Donbass, Kyiv can hardly blame the European Union for inaction, because it itself does not have a clear position. Germany and France, on the contrary, are pushing Ukraine towards specifics. In the economic sphere, claims can be made, since the West could more effectively help Ukrainians develop,” the expert believes.
“Of course, the European Union has the right to be offended by Zelensky,” adds Denisov. “What happened can be compared to how a relative discusses a person behind his back. No one will like this and will certainly affect personal relationships between state leaders. Any material consequences can be judged in six months or a year. “As for Zelensky’s claims, it should be taken into account that France and Germany always proceed from their own, not Ukrainian, national interests; very often they do not coincide.”
According to the political scientist, Zelensky still has a lot to learn, but for now “he is making a lot of very stupid mistakes.”
As PolitNavigator reported, transcript released by the Donald Trump administration telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky put the Ukrainian president in a stupid position.
