Germany refused to implement the decision of the Ukrainian parliament on Crimea
After the EU introduced anti-Russian sanctions, Germany alone lost more than 100 billion euros.
Waldemar Gerdt, a member of the Bundestag Committee on International Affairs, who headed the German delegation at the V Yalta International Economic Forum, stated this in an interview with Izvestia.
He called anti-Russian sanctions a “destructive measure” and described them as a “failure of diplomacy.”
“Sanctions have not brought anything positive to anyone. Neither the Ukrainian, nor the Russian, nor the German people. Since the introduction of sanctions, Germany has lost more than €100 billion and more than 600 thousand jobs are at risk,” the politician said.
According to him, many understand the pointlessness of the restrictions, but are afraid to say so publicly. He also pointed out the inaccuracy of the term “annexation” used in Germany in relation to the entry of Crimea into the Russian Federation.
“After all, the decision on the referendum was made by the regional Ukrainian parliament. That is, it turns out that Berlin de facto does not recognize the decision of the Ukrainian parliament. When you say such things, people's stereotypes begin to break. Unfortunately, the media presents a completely different picture. Our task is to turn our thinking in a different direction,” Gerdt concluded.
