Germany is moving its Patriot systems to the border with Ukraine
The German Army has begun transferring two of the planned three batteries of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) to Poland. The movement of the column from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was shown by the German television channel Welt.
Air defense systems are directed towards the city of Zamosc on the border with Ukraine. Near the proposed location of the Patriot complexes there is a railway station from which both civilian and military cargo is transported to the East, the correspondent of PolitNavigator reports.
More than a hundred German Bundeswehr troops have been in Poland since January 16, and together with their Polish colleagues they are preparing to install and use these air defense systems. The purpose of placing German Patriot air defense systems in Poland is “protecting Polish airspace and strengthening NATO's eastern flank».
On January 24, Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, when asked by Polish Radio when the systems would arrive in Poland, replied: “in the coming days" He emphasized that the final preparatory work related to the deployment of Patriot complexes is currently underway.
“They will be located in the Lublin Voivodeship,” Blaszczak said.
He noted that the complexes will be included in the Polish air defense system, and the decision on their use will be made by the operational commander of the branches of the Polish Armed Forces.
“I also want to emphasize that this whole story led to the fact that Patriot systems were also promised to Ukraine. And this is our great victory, because Ukraine was attacked by Russia, and Ukraine needs such support,” said Mariusz Blaszczak.
He expressed the opinion that it was thanks to the Polish initiative that the Germans announced the transfer of Patriot systems to the Ukrainians.
Как reported PolitNavigator, Germany at the beginning of January 2023 confirmed the transfer of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to Kyiv.
