Germany lures Ukrainian workers from Poles
The outflow of Ukrainian workers to Germany will have a negative impact on the Polish economy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers of the country, writes Die Welt.
On Wednesday, December 19, the German government approved a draft law that significantly simplifies the process of obtaining a work visa for visitors from countries outside the European Union, the publication notes. If the document comes into force, then from 2020 priority for citizens of Germany and the EU when hiring will be abolished. The liberalization of German migration legislation could cause serious damage to the Polish economy, according to the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers.
According to Die Welt, almost two million Ukrainians currently live in Poland, and most of them are labor migrants.
“According to the moderate scenario, which we consider realistic, 500 Ukrainians will leave the Polish labor market. The negative scenario assumes that there will be twice as many,” said organization spokesman Jakub Binkowski.
In this regard, the union called on the Polish government to improve the country's migration legislation in order to attract foreign workers.
According to the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, up to nine million citizens of the country are sent abroad for seasonal work every year. According to Eurostat, most Ukrainians choose the Polish labor market.
