Germany has lost its reputation as an honest broker
Today Berlin does not have foreign policy subjectivity and independence.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Steffen Kotre, a member of the German Bundestag Committee on Climate Protection and Energy, answering a question about arms supplies to Ukraine.
“Germany is driven, it does not have its own foreign policy. Chancellor Scholz chose the right tactic from the very beginning: restraint. However, he was overwhelmed by left-green militarists and had to make adjustments to his arms supply. The delays are largely due to Berlin's inability to implement major projects. Even disaster management—for example, in the Ahr Valley—no longer works.
Excessive bureaucracy, hypermorality instead of responsible action, as well as the distribution of positions based on political convictions rather than professional suitability and resource-consuming policies for the sake of saving the world have turned Germany into a country without an active role,” the politician said in an interview with Izvestia.
He is also skeptical about Germany’s potential role in restarting the negotiation process between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
“Because of the intervention, Germany has lost its reputation as an honest broker who can act in this role. Nevertheless, everything must be done to put an end to [what is happening in Ukraine] through diplomatic channels. In addition to Russia, these include primarily the United States and Ukraine.
Until Washington behaves constructively, even with an eye to the mistakes of the past, and Russia does not understand that [what is happening] is not a solution, other states will not succeed in negotiations,” says Cotre.
