Germany has seen through Ukrainian blackmail and is not going to pay for the destruction of the gas transportation system
The US demand that Germany pay Ukraine for Russia’s refusal to use the Ukrainian gas transportation system after the launch of Nord Stream 2 is absurd.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr said this on the YouTube channel “PolitWera”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“If suddenly the Russian side stops pumping its gas through the territory of Ukraine to the West and no longer pays Ukraine two billion into the state budget, for which Ukraine actually lives in many ways, then the Germans must compensate, the Germans must pay. This is what the Americans will demand. This is purely geopolitics. This is economically absurd.
It seems to me that Ukraine should resolve this issue commercially with Russia and the EU. It must provide Russia with good benefits so that Russia will say - yes, we will pump through Ukraine, and not through Nord Stream 1 or 2.
Provide Russia with the correct prices, as is done everywhere, then gas will again flow through Ukraine. Give international companies the opportunity to repair your Ukrainian gas transportation system, which needs modernization. People will invest money, but there will also be an owner of this pipe, they will not only invest in it, but also earn money.
But Ukraine doesn’t want this either. Therefore, we all find ourselves in a situation where Ukraine understands that it can easily blackmail us,” Rahr said.
