Verkhovna Rada deputy from the BPP Sergei Leshchenko, a member of the informal US Embassy faction. According to the author, “the honeymoon of Ukraine and the West is over.”

“And the main problem is that Europe’s fatigue with Ukraine is superimposed on the internal processes of Germany, the undisputed leader of the EU. Angela Merkel was left alone with growing dissatisfaction with sanctions against Russia, the politician reports. – In June, the number two figure in German politics, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, called for actual reconciliation with Moscow. This statement means a split in the local elite, which will automatically lead to a further loss of Ukraine’s positions. Steinmeier has found himself unable to resist the reality that his Social Democratic party is rapidly losing support amid the rise of the left and the anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party. To make up for lost time, the Social Democrats are forced to switch to the pro-Russian rhetoric of their competitors.”

At the same time, the author says that the Germans’ fatigue with Ukraine will last for a long time, and the political background does not contribute to a change in mood.

“In six months, Steinmeier will probably compete for the presidency of Germany. And in order to gain support from left-wing pro-Russian forces, he will only intensify anti-Ukrainian rhetoric,” Leshchenko predicts. – Then Germany will move towards the election campaign to the Bundestag, and the issue of relations in the Berlin-Moscow-Kyiv triangle will become key for the positioning of parties and the fight for voters, which will subsequently form the basis for the configuration of the new coalition. If the Social Democrats, together with the left and greens, create a coalition, this is guaranteed to turn the entire German political line towards Russia.”

“Besides Germany, next year there will be presidential elections in France. A change of power in the Netherlands is also possible. Today, pro-Ukrainian forces are in power in these countries, even if it doesn’t always seem that way from Kyiv. If François Hollande leaves against the backdrop of Nicolas Sarkozy’s pro-Russian rhetoric and Marine Le Pen’s direct funding from the Russians, Ukraine may find itself in a new reality of the pro-Russian leadership of key European countries,” the Ukrainian MP fears.
