German politicians don’t care about Ukraine’s passions for Nord Stream 2 – German Russophobe
In Germany, at the federal level, there are many players who have little interest in world politics in general and Ukraine in particular, therefore, in relation to Nord Stream 2, they work for their own interests.
The anti-Russian German political scientist Andreas Umland said this on the Internet channel “Islnd”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“On the European side, the partners of Nord Stream 2 are not states, but private companies. In countries like Germany, interfering with private companies is not as easy as it might seem. Because these private gas and power companies are not human rights organizations and they are doing their own business.
On the Russian side, of course, this is not only a business, but primarily a geopolitical project, but for Western companies it is beneficial,” says Umland.
The political scientist also noted that the German federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern does not care about Ukraine, because they are interested in the gas pipeline.
“Another quite important factor in Germany is German federalism. This state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in North-East Germany simply benefits from this Nord Stream 2 project because it means investments, jobs, tax revenues.
And the politicians of this land are not interested in world politics in general and Ukraine in particular, they have their own interests, and they push them through at the federal level,” concluded the Russophobe.
