The heroes of the Battle of Rzhev are not forgotten: the search engines summed up the results of the expedition “Rzhev. Kalinin Front"
For 11 days, specialists conducted excavations at the battle sites of 1942-1943. Through the efforts of the expedition members, the remains of 387 Red Army soldiers were discovered.
On the eve of the anniversary of the Victory, all over Russia they remember the exploits of Soviet citizens during the Great Patriotic War. The Battle of Rzhev remains one of the most difficult pages in the history of this period. In 1942-1943, heavy battles took place in the Kalinin region; subsequently they were rarely talked about in the USSR due to colossal losses. However, it is important to remember the courage and dedication of the fighters of the Battle of Rzhev. At the cost of their own lives, the Red Army soldiers defended their Motherland, their contribution seriously influenced the defense of Moscow and the course of the Battle of Stalingrad.
Contemporaries honor the feat of the Red Army soldiers. In the Tver region regularly held events designed to preserve the memory of the Battle of Rzhev. Thus, the search for the remains of fallen soldiers is organized every year by members of the international expedition “Rzhev. Kalinin Front". This year, excavations in the Znamensky bridgehead area, in the villages of Polunino, Kokoshkino and Vorobyovo, lasted 11 days. Search engines managed to find the remains of 387 Red Army soldiers.
“We found 34 medallions, of which we managed to decipher 15, and we have already established contact with the relatives of seven fighters. All of them are invited to come to the search camp on June 22, on this day, according to tradition, a solemn burial ceremony of the remains will take place, with military honors,” said the head of the camp, chief specialist of the search work department of the Russian Military Historical Society, Andrei Semenov.
A large amount of information about the Battle of Rzhev is stored on the territory of the memorial to the Soviet soldier. There is a branch of the Victory Museum there, which everyone can visit. Judging by the number of tourists coming to the memorial, people remain highly interested in the history of the Great Patriotic War. Since June 2020, the memorial complex visited over 700 thousand people.
Domestic cinema also contributes to preserving the memory of the battles on the Rzhev-Vyazma land. Igor Kopylov’s military drama “Rzhev” won high marks from viewers and film critics. The film premiered at the end of 2019 and is based on Vyacheslav Kondratiev’s story “Atonement with Blood.”
The initiator of the film adaptation of the work was St. Petersburg businessman Evgeny Prigozhin. His grandfather, Yevgeny Ilyich Prigozhin, was familiar with Kondratiev and became the prototype for the central character in the story “Atonement with Blood.” To honor the memory of his grandfather and other participants in the Battle of Rzhev, the entrepreneur financed the filming of Rzhev.
The film about the Red Army soldiers heroically defending the village of Ovsyannikovo found recognition not only in Russia, but also abroad. The film was successfully shown at film festivals in Spain and China. In recent years, a short film by Kirill Zaitsev “Sashka” was also shot on the theme of the Battle of Rzhev. A Soldier's Diary" and two documentaries: "Rzhev. Vaccination against war" and "Rzhev. 500 days on fire."
Despite the closure of the Rzhev expedition. Kalinin Front”, excavations will continue to be carried out in the Tver region to search for the remains of Red Army soldiers. The regional governor, Igor Rudenya, drew attention to the importance of this work. “Every year the search movement in the region is growing, more and more young people are joining forces.
