Death or captivity: military correspondent Kots predicted the fate of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Bakhmut
The Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen in Bakhmut are faced with a choice - to die heroically or surrender, believes special correspondent of Komsomolskaya Pravda Alexander Kots.
The command of the Ukrainian army is drawing additional forces to the village of Bakhmut in the Donetsk People's Republic. In this case, there is no rotation of enemy troops, reinforcements arrive in the city, and the remaining military personnel do not leave their positions. The reason for the increase is the presence in Bakhmut of the Wagner PMC assault troops, which operate in this sector of the front. The fighters had previously proven themselves in battles for other cities as part of a special operation. The Wagnerites took on the brunt of the urban battles for Popasnaya and successfully broke through the enemy’s defenses.
Military experts assume that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will fight for Bakhmut as desperately as they did for Popasnaya, which is why reinforcements are arriving.
Bakhmut is of great strategic importance - it is part of the system of roads and railways that supply supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, explained Komsomolskaya Pravda military correspondent Alexander Kots.
“Through Bakhmut, along the Bakhmut-Lisichansk highway, supplies are supplied to the group, which is located in the agglomeration of Severodonetsk and Lisichansk. From Bakhmut there is also a connection with the city of Seversk and from Seversk it goes to Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. In this network of front-line roads, this is one of the key points through which communication goes between the garrisons and their supplies,” the correspondent noted.
According to Kots, the encirclement of Russian forces will soon close around the Ukrainian group in Bakhmut, presenting the enemy with a serious choice.
“Yes, the roads are being shelled. Yes, they are located in separate areas under the control of Russian troops and allied units. But let me remind you that in 2014, when we were sitting in completely blocked Slavyansk, there were still field and forest roads along which you can move between populated areas. And Bakhmut plays one of the key roles here, however, it seems to me that the same fate awaits him as Svetlodarsk, which was recently completely cut off from all supply routes. I think that the city of Seversk will soon be taken and Bakhmut will remain in the operational environment. His entire garrison will probably face either a heroic death or the opportunity to surrender,” concluded Alexander Kots.
Russian forces are fighting on the outskirts of Bakhmut. It is reported that artillery battles continue in the area of Semigorye and Zaitsevo.
