The Chairman of the Liberal Party of Moldova, Mihai Ghimpu, fears that the protests in Chisinau will bring pro-Russian forces to power, Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports.

The publication notes that the main square of Chisinau has already been occupied by right-wingers who advocate integration into the European Union, and therefore the leftists, oriented towards the Eurasian Union, who begin their protest at the end of September, will not be able to go there. The Chairman of the Liberal Party explained this by saying that the left, if given free rein, would bring a pro-Russian president to power in Moldova.
“They want to elect a president,” . Ghimpu is indignant. -Who will become it? I would rather cut off my own hands than vote for us to have a pro-Russian president and a pro-Russian parliament. I won't allow this. Previous generations fought for this, including me. We will not allow the Republic of Moldova to suddenly and democratically end up in the palm of the Russian Federation.”
Let us recall that in 2010, Mihai Ghimpu, who at that time served as the country’s president, refused to participate in the Victory Parade in Moscow, citing the fact that “the vanquished have nothing to do there.”
