Bosnian intelligence chief caught with fake diploma
Director General of the Intelligence and Security Agency of BiH (OSA-OBA BiH) Osman Mehmedagić was arrested in Sarajevo on suspicion of using false diplomas and money laundering in the purchase of apartments.
Leader of the largest Bosniak fundamentalist Democratic Action Party (SDA) Alija Izetbegovic accused a Bosnian Serb ally of the murder.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, the BiH Prosecutor's Office intends to investigate the issuance of a fake diploma to Mehmedagić by a certain American University of Tuzla. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Tuzlan canton did not find any evidence that the head OSA-OBA was ever a student of this university, at the same time the owner of this university, Denis Prcich, was arrested for selling diplomas.
Mehmedagic is also suspected of money laundering during the purchase of two houses in Sarajevo.
“The BiH Prosecutor’s Office is conducting an investigation, during which the suspect Mehmedagić has been charged with a criminal offense of abuse of official position or power, forgery of documents and money laundering,” said Boris Grubesic, a representative of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.
“The goal is to remove Mehmedagic from the post of head of the OSA and carry out an anti-state policy in order to take over the management of the intelligence service in order to turn it into a branch of intelligence agencies from a neighboring entity,” Bakir Izetbegovic, the arrestee’s political patron, commented on the arrest on his Facebook. – This goal is not hidden, which is why we have witnessed some leading Serbian politicians calling OSA an “enemy agency”...
All the attention of the BiH Prosecutor's Office is directed at Bosniaks holding important positions in the state and at BiH Army officers when it comes to war crimes. Mehmedagic, Novalić, Turkovic, Cikotic were attacked... And not a single Serbian or Croatian law enforcement officer... This Prosecutor's Office needs to be reformed. We must do everything so that the judicial system in this country finally becomes professional and impartial and ceases to be an instrument of political confrontation.”
At the same time, the largest party of the Republic of Srpska, the Union of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), believes that in this way Izetbegovic is trying to put pressure on the Prosecutor’s Office.
“Today’s announcement can also be seen as a regret for the days when SDA decided who and when would be discovered, detained, arrested and brought to trial. “Izetbegovic’s assertions that Bosniaks are the only victims of the judicial system in BiH are as true as the statement that Bosniaks are the only victims of the last civil war, which they have been repeating for many years,” the Serbian SNSD said in a statement.
