The head of the DPR intends to become a citizen of Russia
All residents of the DPR who wish to obtain Russian passports will be given this opportunity if certain criteria are met.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, spoke about this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
The publication recalled that in the Rostov region the long-awaited issuance of Russian Federation passports to residents of the DPR began by presidential decree, and asked whether the leader of the republic has Russian citizenship.
“I plan to get it. I, like my fellow countrymen, have every right to become a citizen of the Russian Federation, and I will gladly take advantage of this right,” said Pushilin.
He also answered a question about problems with obtaining Russian citizenship, the right to which is only available to holders of DPR passports, of which there are only a few hundred thousand out of the three million inhabitants of the republic.
“Such a requirement is provided as one of the security measures. Until recently, everyone could freely obtain a passport of the Donetsk People's Republic; at first there was also a stir, then the process returned to normal. I am sure that even now the migration service and passport offices will cope with the task, a lot is being done for this - the staff is increasing, the material and technical base is improving, and an electronic queue is being introduced. And this process is being normalized: everyone who wants to receive a Russian passport and meets the known requirements will, without a doubt, receive it,” Pushilin assured.
