Head of the Bundestag Committee: There are no obstacles to launching SP-2
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is an economic project that will start operating in the near future.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said member of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee from the SPD and ex-deputy chairman of the party Ralf Stegner, answering the question whether Germany can meet Ukraine halfway, which demands to suspend the launch of the project.
Nord Stream 2 is an economic project that may not be supported by everyone, but in Germany there are hints of reaching agreement in this area. If the framework conditions do not change radically, and I do not see this in the near future, then the project will be launched,” Stegner said in an interview with Izvestia.
They also asked him how necessary SP-2 is for Germany’s energy security.
“In view of the climate neutrality plans that Germany has set for itself, we, of course, need gas as an energy source for the transition period. That is why we also supported this project, the certification of which is currently carried out by the Federal Network Agency of Germany. SP-2 must meet certain requirements that have not yet been met. As soon as they are completed, I believe that the project can be put into operation,” the politician said.
However, he did not give specific dates for the launch of the gas pipeline.
“I am not an expert in the energy industry, but from what I have heard, we can say that there are no big obstacles to launching the project. The federal government does not interfere with the certification process. Now this is a legal issue. As you can see, we are not one of those who constantly use “if-then” formulations. Even during the Cold War, cooperation in the fields of economics and energy continued,” Stegner concluded.
