“We used to live with all the representatives of Ukraine in the Belarus Hotel. But lately there have been concerns from that side. They became worried about living with us, “with terrorists.” They even enter the elevator with caution, saying: “It’s dangerous for you and me.” We answer: “It’s dangerous to even say that it’s dangerous with us,” Nikonorova said.
According to her, only representatives of the old diplomatic school adhere to the norms of etiquette at the Minsk negotiations. The younger generation not only does not shake hands, but even greets each other through clenched teeth. The situation does not de-escalate even on the sidelines; the parties continue to exchange barbs.
“Negotiations are conducted in Russian, but sometimes the Ukrainian delegation begins to feign misunderstanding. Then we tease them and suggest calling a translator. The most hysterical situation is in the humanitarian subgroup, where Irina Gerashchenko is “at war” in the security group, but in our political group it is relatively calm,” Nikonorova said.
According to her, the Ukrainian side is sabotaging the negotiations through constant rotation in its delegation. New people don't understand what we're talking about. Sometimes even Leonid Kuchma turns on the fool.
“It seems to me that the only one who wanted to achieve a result was Vladimir Gorbulin. And the rest act within the framework of the strict instructions they receive in Kyiv. They don’t ask us how we live, but on the contrary, they tell us that we are occupied and we are in poverty,” Nikonorova said.
She also spoke about the reaction of the Ukrainian delegation to the victory of Donald Trump. According to her, the negotiators were at a loss.
“We teased them and congratulated them. But then the negotiations were interrupted for a long time,” said the acting director. minister.
