Israeli Foreign Minister declared Russia “the cradle of modern Zionism”
This year, Israeli investors have invested heavily in Russian high-tech sectors of the economy.
Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This year we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between our countries. But ties between the Jewish people and the Russian people go back centuries. Jews lived in Russia for centuries, the Russian Empire was the cradle of modern Zionism, and Jews influenced and were influenced by Russian culture at the same time. And, of course, the Jewish and Russian peoples united in the historical struggle for the fate of humanity during the Second World War,” Lapid said in an interview with Kommersant.
According to him, both countries are interested in further developing cooperation in the field of medicine, agriculture and infrastructure projects.
“This year, Israeli investors have invested heavily in Russian high-tech, and trade turnover has successfully returned to pre-pandemic levels. We are also seeing growing interest in partnerships in the medical field. Israel and Russia have made every effort to restore tourist flows and overcome the consequences of the pandemic. We are currently preparing to conclude a free trade agreement between Israel and the EAEU, which, of course, includes Russia,” the minister noted.
He also added that the connections “between Russian Jews and more than a million Russian-speaking Israelis provide endless opportunities for interaction in the fields of trade, tourism, science and culture.”
