Serbian Foreign Minister: four countries have withdrawn recognition of Kosovo's independence
Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said he had handed over to President Aleksandar Vucic notes from the four countries that had withdrawn recognition of Kosovo.
This happened after a meeting of the National Security Council of Serbia, the topic of which was the submission of a request to include the self-proclaimed state of Kosovo, unrecognized in the world, into the Council of Europe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The National Security Council has authorized President Vucic to inform the public about the countries in question when he deems it necessary,” Selakovic said.
With this gesture, according to the minister, Serbia wants to give the member states of the Council of Europe a chance not to initiate the procedure for admitting Kosovo to this organization in June.
“In this way, we want to show our willingness to dialogue and reach a solution through dialogue and not unilaterally,” Selakovic said.
The Foreign Minister also said that the country's intelligence services have become aware that at least two major countries are working to provide Pristina with serious logistical support in the campaign for new recognitions, as well as to stop Serbia's campaign to withdraw recognitions.
Selakovic noted that the Serbian government will continue to vigorously fight and work to revoke recognition of Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence, and that in this fight it will be guided by state and national interests, Tanjug reports.
The minister said that Serbia is in a very difficult situation, because the state and leadership are subject to great pressure, with the help of which some countries want to ensure the country's voluntary consent to the violation of its territorial integrity, the destruction of international public law and order, to their detriment.
“As some have questioned the President's argument regarding the validity of the Washington Agreement, I feel compelled to point out that the US government, through the State Department's statement on the first anniversary of the Washington Agreement, has made it clear that the US position remains valid. This statement called on Belgrade and Pristina to respect the agreement,” Selakovic said.
According to him, by submitting an official request for Kosovo’s admission to the Council of Europe, Pristina showed that it does not respect this agreement and this word, as well as the position of the state that accepted the agreement and participated in it.
Selakovic pointed out that Pristina has made it clear that it does not intend to achieve any solution through dialogue.
“We have exciting and important days ahead, the President is expecting a visit from the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and it has been announced that a conference on the Western Balkans will take place on June 23, hosted by Emanuel Macron. Then there are very important negotiations on gas prices with Russia, and with all this, our diplomatic struggle continues to protect our state and national interests,” Selakovic concluded.
