The head of the Slovak Foreign Ministry in Kyiv demonstratively went against Russia
Russian arguments that Ukraine's desire to join NATO poses a threat to Moscow do not stand up to criticism.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Ivan Korcok, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t understand the Russian argument that Ukraine’s aspirations for NATO are a threat. Back in 2014, when Crimea was captured and the war in Donbass began, this had nothing to do with Ukrainian aspirations for NATO. We already knew then that we were talking about an Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. Why should we see these arguments that have been circulated, and we do not share them, that Ukraine’s aspirations for NATO are a threat to Russia?” – said Ivan Korchok.
His words were criticized by political scientist Denis Denisov, director of the Institute of Peace Initiatives.
“Either this person is completely professionally unsuitable because he cannot understand the geopolitical situation that is happening in the region. Or a person deliberately pretends that he does not understand the real situation and plays the role of a puppet who voices pre-prepared theses, moreover, prepared, most likely, overseas.
For any analyst, for any foreign minister of a European country, I think it is absolutely obvious that the involvement of Ukraine in NATO directly affects the security of the Russian Federation, like the involvement of Georgia or talk about a similar manipulation with Moldova. Not seeing this means not seeing anything, it’s just professional incompetence.
But, nevertheless, most likely, we are faced with the purposeful formation of public opinion, the position of a number of states that are simply called upon to form a reality within which there is a “force of evil”, like Russia, and there are “forces of good” in the form of the collective West . Based on this, such statements are made,” Denisov explained.
