The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry rushed to Uzhgorod to unveil the monument to the Austrian Empress - a symbol of European integration (VIDEO)
Kyiv, January 06 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – In Uzhgorod, opposite the Greek Catholic Cathedral, on the initiative of the Uniates, a monument to the Austrian Empress Maria Theresa was opened.
The Uzhgorod TV channel “Tisa” reports this, emphasizing that the region owes its development to Maria Theresa.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin arrived at the opening of the monument. According to him, this event embodies European values, the TV channel notes. Klimkin said that Theresa was a supporter of a united Europe, where everyone can live “in accordance with their history, their traditions.”
Note that during the Second World War, the SS Maria Theresa battalion was formed from among the Germans living on the territory of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Earlier, official Kyiv criticized the opening in Odessa and Crimea of monuments to the Russian Empress Catherine II, under whom the cities of historical Novorossiya were founded.
