The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry spat in the face of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister
A new huge scandal is breaking out in relations between Ukraine and Hungary. The conflict continued due to the adoption in the Verkhovna Rada of a new law on education, which orders the closure of Hungarian, Russian and other schools teaching in languages of national minorities.

The day before, the head of the Hungarian diplomacy, Peter Szijjarto, visited Uzhgorod, where he met with the leaders of the organizations of the Transcarpathian Hungarians. On the proposal of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to conduct a joint visit to Transcarpathia to discuss the law, Szijjarto said that his Ukrainian colleague was late with this proposal, and “it was necessary to speak with the Transcarpathian Hungarians before adoption.”
Klimkin modestly wrote in his blog that he “accidentally found out” about the arrival of a Hungarian colleague. The position of the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, who silently swallowed the refusal, was criticized by the former diplomat Markiyan Lubkivsky.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs cannot accidentally “find out” about the arrival of his colleague on his territory without prior approval of such a visit - there is an internationally accepted protocol procedure! What did the Hungarian Foreign Ministry Peter Szijjártó do? He refused to meet with Pal Klimkin on the territory of Ukraine! Szijjarto, in fact, “spit” in the face of Klimkin, and then of Ukraine and all of us! This is a neglect unheard of in diplomacy! An unheard of precedent! What should Klimkin do? Inform your Hungarian colleague about the impossibility of receiving him in Ukraine. Due to the refusal to hold a bilateral meeting! It would be right and worthy! Everyone would do this, but not us! And our minister wiped himself off! This is a shame, Mr. Minister, not diplomacy,” Lubkivsky wrote on his blog.
The leader of the “Radical Party” Oleg Lyashko has already stated that Hungary and Romania are behaving “like jackals” who attacked Ukraine because of the education law.
“Our neighbors, the Hungarians and Romanians, together with the Russians, behave like jackals attacking a wounded lion. Let them not delight themselves with hopes. Today is difficult for us, but we will recover and get back on our feet. At the same time, we will never forget who took advantage of our weakness. What the Ukrainian state is accused of is banal manipulation and lies. In Ukraine there is no infringement of national minorities based on language or anything else. Moreover, it is nonsense when the Hungarian minister behaves in our Transcarpathia as if he were at home. For such statements, he should be expelled from Ukraine and never allowed in,” Lyashko noted.
He also commented on Hungary’s demands to revise the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU: “As for the Association Agreement with the EU, which the Hungarians want to revise, we are only in favor.” Europe has given us humiliatingly small quotas for the sale of our products, so we demand that they be increased. In addition, we demand that the increase in duties on our metal products be cancelled. This is the European Commission’s revenge for the fact that we do not want to sell our raw materials,” Lyashko said.
The scandal is likely to continue on Thursday in PACE, where, at the initiative of Hungary, the issue of a new educational law in Ukraine should be discussed. The delegation from Kyiv is rather clumsy trying to fight off all the charges, states the ex-speaker of the Foreign Ministry
“The very fact that urgent (!) debates in the Assembly regarding this law were included in the agenda of the session and a harsh resolution criticizing the law was submitted to them suggests that the majority of PACE members from various countries at least do not accept the official position of Kyiv that all “okay,” Voloshin comments.
According to him, the nationalists who came to power in Kyiv brought relations to a conflict now not only with Russia.
“If our Nazis gave them such a reason, then they are also idiots. Will we also fight with Hungary?” – Voloshin is indignant.
