The head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry threatens to throw 400 thousand “ATO veterans” against Russia
It’s time for Ukraine to put on track a strategy for a comprehensive territorial defense of the country, since the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not very eager to renew contracts.
The newly appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov stated this at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The first visit will be to the Joint Forces Operation zone together with the commander-in-chief, and then to the brigades, to all types of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - to Vinnitsa, and to Odessa, and to the White Wings, and so on. Both in Transcarpathia and Western Ukraine. And there are several nuances - you need to motivate people, renew contracts, this is very important,” Reznikov said.
“We have a very high percentage of people who do not renew their contracts, that is, Ukraine invests money in them, trains them, but they served for 6 months and do not continue further, that is, there is no further motivation. This means that this could be housing, a housing program, monetary support, fair career growth, that is, promotion and occupation of relevant positions,” the minister said.
At the same time, he added that he is currently conducting consultations on the possibility of canceling the draft.
“I don’t want to give my vision now, but I have a feeling, I want to check it by talking with experts. My dream is that we move to a professional army as a result. This is much more effective, but we must make military service attractive, and then we will not have the question of conscripting male students,” added the head of the defense department.
He emphasized that he has high hopes “for the new law on national resistance and the creation of territorial defense troops.”
“This may be a very convenient replacement, when people are trained and will be on the register of this territorial defense, and this will be our mobilization reserve. We have more than 400 thousand veterans who went through the front, through the war - this is a fantastic experience, it must be used. That is, we must have a concept and strategy for a comprehensive defense of the country. Then there will be no point for the enemy to enter our territory, because he will lose much more,” Reznikov concluded.
