The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that he does not want to obey Poroshenko and is not afraid of a conflict with him
In Ukraine, the Minister of Internal Affairs should be controlled by parliament, not the president.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, stated this in an interview with journalist Dmitry Gordon, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the minister, President Poroshenko likes to control absolutely everything and wanted to gain complete control over the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“And I am a fairly independent person, I have my own views and opinions. I still believe that the Minister of Internal Affairs should not submit to the president. The Minister of Internal Affairs is a separate institution within the Cabinet of Ministers, closed to parliament. And the Minister of Internal Affairs should be a weighing figure, providing completely different functions,” the minister said.
“Pyotr Alekseevich has a more patriarchal-traditional view of this in the spirit of the traditions of Soviet Ukrainian politics, so to speak. This is where the roots of the conflict come from. We have neutral relations today, I’ll say it carefully. Regardless of whether I like it or not, I try to build relationships smoothly. It’s just that in the most fundamental moments I’m also not afraid of direct conflict. Because in fundamental moments, if I take the right position, I feel good about it. And when necessary, I speak directly, I’m not shy,” admitted Avakov.
