The head of Naftogaz unexpectedly turned out to be a supporter of Nord Stream
In Kyiv, a decision was made to reduce investments in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, which made Nord Stream 2 no alternative.
Valentin Zemlyansky, director of energy programs at the Center for World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this on the PolitWera channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The fact that there are problems with units, with compressor stations has been known for a long time. No money is being invested there, and in the southern direction [investments] were completely reset after it became clear that the first line of the Turkish Stream will go, starting next year, to Turkey and the volume that went through Ukraine, 8-9 billion cubic meters , will be lost. That is, they are not even investing in this direction,” the expert noted.
“In general, Naftogaz adopted a plan in 2016 to invest in the Ukrainian gas transportation system with the prospect that transit on January 1, 2020 will be zero.
Therefore, I say that Mr. Kobolev is the most ardent supporter of Nord Stream. In fact, the decisions that are made were called sabotage in Soviet times,” Zemlyansky said.
